Every year many people lose their lives in railway accidents. Sometimes it happens due to their fault, Railway Claims Tribunal Act, 1987 was enacted to provide speedy disposal of claims against railway administration.

Even though the railway administration created a way to compensate the consignor/consignor and also for the loss of life and property, still people were often not satisfied and would approach the courts, which took a lot of time in deciding the claims. It took a long time and the litigation became protracted. Indefinite Period Therefore, a need was felt to expedite the disposal of claims as soon as possible, resulting in the setting up of Claims Tribunals, which would specifically deal with such claims and dispose of them expeditiously.
